Wendy Bird

Wendy is the founder of Pearls with Purpose, a social-impact organization which combines micro-enterprising with humanitarian assistance. Since 2002 Wendy has inspired and motivated people all over the world by sharing her passion and experiences with social entrepreneurship. A certified gemologist (GIA) and graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10KSB MBA program, Wendy leads women toward long term self-sustainment by teaching them jewelry-making (art) and business ownership (micro-enterprise skills). This knowledge empowers women to create products which are then sold in developed countries while owning/running their own entity in their country.

After beginning her work in Philippines, Co-ops were opened in Ban Nam Kem, Thailand (2006), Barathapurham, India (2010), and Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2013. This worldwide outreach program has assisted hundreds of women in creating self-sustainability for themselves and their families. Over 400 students have received educational scholarships and over 22 provinces have received container shipments comprised of books, educational and hygiene kits, and other needed items. Wendy is a firm believer in Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs as she has witnessed first-hand the ability for individuals to benefit from a ‘hand-up’ not a ‘hand-out’.

Today, two-thirds of the world population lives in poverty. “We need to educate, motivate, and take some real steps towards solving this crisis,” says Wendy. “In my travels, I have seen that it is the hope of every mother to want the best for her child. No mother should have to choose between education for her children or food for her family. When people focus on improving their life, dignity is ignited and hope replaces discouragement as real change comes from within themselves.”

Wendy has received such awards as “Humanitarian of the Year,” “Utah Woman Making a Difference,” “Best of State” in jewelry production, and has been featured on Good Things Utah and various radio shows. She is well known for her keynote speeches throughout America addressing Social Mindedness, Passion With Purpose, For Humanity Sake and other topics in the socially conscious realm.

Due to her infectious and motivating love for humanity, Wendy has brought about change in the lives of thousands of people both here in America and internationally.

She is the mother of 5 children, and “Nana” to 5 grandchildren. A California native, she has a huge love for travel and when in country, resides in Sandy, UT.
